Amsterdam, Netherlands  – 13 July 2018–  Soliton Systems, the first mobile manufacturer of an H265 bonded solutions for outside broadcast have announced that their 4 channel software decoder will now support additional IP workflows with the inclusion of NewTek NDI®.

Joining the largestIP ecosystem of products in the broadcast and video industry, Soliton Systems have integratedNDI into their 4-channel decoder, HD-View, as part of their outside broadcast solutions, to be recognizable as a source by other NDI-enabled applications and devices.

Soliton’sSmart-telecaster range of broadcast products allows live sports production companies and news gathering teams to easily live stream from a camera without the need of a satellite truck or RF infrastructure. These H265 encoders, that are connected to the camera, can utilize multiple 4G connections that are bonded for high reliability and work reliably even in congested areas. Soliton are further enhancing these solutions with new software features for the receiving end that allows integrated IP-based workflows to include NewTek NDI.

NewTek’s royalty free NDI technology enables video and audio sources to be shared bi-directionally across an IP network. This eliminates the need for costly direct connections by utilizing commodity cabling and IP infrastructure so in this case, turning every live streaming device from Soliton into a source, making them instantly available anywhere on the broadcast IP network.

“We are pleased that Soliton have added themselves to the large NDI ecosystem of products” said Michael Kornet, executive vice president and general manager, NDI for NewTek.

Kornet continues, “NDI-enabled devices like the Smart-telecaster Zao products for mobile outside broadcast exponentially increases the video sources available for live production and thus creates ease of integration and cost savings as a result. NDI is the most widely adopted IP technology on the market, epitomised by the millions of customers with access to it today.”

Many broadcasters are now migrating from older baseband technologies to IP and cloud solutions, with inter-operability and commoditising of products being viewed as distinct advantage.

Mark Andrews, Head of Broadcast and Public Safety for Soliton Systems Europe also comments:

“Mobile cameras for outside broadcast are not typically networked attached and still rely on traditional baseband technology such as HDMI or HD-SDI. By adopting NDI from NewTek on our receiving decoding platform, we are allowing outside broadcasters to take advantage of IP workflows without the need to change their mobile camera infrastructure.”

The NDI SDK is royalty free for any company looking to establish IP workflows within their organisation, or in commercial products and applications they deliver.

Soliton’s Zao-S is a cost-effective 400gram device that connects to the camera and can deliver full HD over multiple 4G connections, WiFi or satellite simultaneously. It has a typical latency of less than 1 second to a broadcast center ready for ingest and playout.

About NDI

NDI is in use on millions of devices and allows multiple video systems to identify and communicate with one another over IP. NDI can encode, transmit and receive many streams of high quality, low latency, frame-accurate video and audio in real time. This benefits any network-connected video device, including video mixers, graphics systems, capture cards, and many other production devices. This makes it possible to exponentially increase the number of sources available for live production switching, without directly attaching to devices, changing locations, or investing in expensive, high-bandwidth networks that simply replace SDI-based workflows. #NDIcentral
