Soliton announces NewTek NDI® integration for IBC

Amsterdam, Netherlands  – 29 August  2017 –  Soliton Systems, the lead manufacturer of H265 bonded solutions for outside broadcast to live stream video using the 3G or 4G mobile phone cellular network, announces a new integration and support for software-driven IP workflows using NewTek NDI®.

Joining the industry’s largest IP ecosystem of products and the rapidly expanding number of companies enabling IP-based customer workflows, Soliton Systems will integrate NDI as part of their mobile live streaming for outside broadcast to be recognizable as a source by other NDI-enabled applications and devices, that are connected to a standard Ethernet local area network.

NewTek’s royalty free NDI technology allows video and audio sources to be shared bi-directionally across an IP network. This eliminates the need for costly direct connections with expensive cable runs and infrastructure upgrades while turning every source into a destination, making them instantly available anywhere on the network.

The IBC show in Amsterdam is well known for technology companies to showcase their new innovative workflows in the broadcast field, and this year it will be no exception for Soliton Systems.

With their recent announcement of the new tiny Zao-S H.265 HEVC encoder as part of the Soliton Smart-telecaster range of broadcast products, this enables live video streaming without the need for satellite trucks or expensive RF links. Soliton are further enhancing this with new software features that allows integrated IP-based workflows that includes NewTek NDI

Software-driven IP workflows are quickly becoming ubiquitous in video production

said Michael Kornet, executive vice president of Business Development for NewTek. “NDI-enabled devices like the Smart-telecaster products for mobile live streaming, exponentially increases the video sources available for live production and thus creates efficiencies and opportunities for customers that did not previously exist. NDI is the most widely adopted IP technology on the market, epitomised by the millions of customers with access to it today.”

Many broadcasters are now migrating from older baseband technologies to IP, and cloud solutions, with inter-operability and commoditising of products seen as distinct advantage.

Mark Andrews, Head of Broadcast for Soliton Systems Europe also comments:

Mobile cameras for outside broadcast are not typically networked attached and still rely on traditional baseband technology such as HDMI or HD-SDI. By adopting NDI from NewTek on our receiving platform, we are allowing outside broadcasters to take advantage of IP workflows without the need to change their mobile camera infrastructure.

The NDI SDK is royalty free for any company looking to establish IP workflows within their organisation, or in commercial products and applications they deliver.

At IBC, Soliton will be displaying the benefits of NDI with NewTek’s TriCaster® multi-camera video production system alongside their Smart-telecaster and cloud solutions. Attendees can see the products at the Soliton stand in hall 2 on stand B.11.
